NKT A/S, through its Czech unit NKT s.r.o., is under investigation by Slovak competition authorities for alleged collusion in the cable sector, which the company denies. The probe involves 11 cable makers and may lead to fines, with a decision expected in six to twelve months. NKT is also being reviewed by Czech regulators, with outcomes still pending.
NEC, a major Asian undersea cable group, could receive up to $500 million in Japanese government subsidies to purchase two specialized cable-laying ships, addressing national security and supply risks. The first vessel may launch by 2027, strengthening Japan’s digital infrastructure autonomy as global competition intensifies.
