This article deals with the impact of Stelmor-cooled rod on the production of flat wire at Newman-Crosby Steel. Advantages of the Stelmor cooled rod for the producer of flat wire are outlined, most significant being a greater reduction from rod to intermediate flattened size, better structural uniformity and resultant dimensional tolerances. Gauge and width variation readings are provided throughout the article.
