Description
When finding myself engaged in a conversation regarding the selection of an electric drive for a given adjustable speed application, I often hear the question posed in terms of “A-C vs D-C” as if there were a contest or as through there were a winner and loser inherent in the decision. In fact, there is no way to lose. The increasing availability of solid state A-C drives combined with the continued refinement and modernization of the more traditional D-C drives offers the user a broader choice of drives and the opportunity to more exactly match drive characteristics to machine requirements.
