Description
This paper covers the study of the causes of premature failure of a 64-mm diameter FLC (Full Locked Coil) track rope used in an aerial ropeway system for transporting material and remedial measures thereafter. Frequent broken wires in part of the outer layer of a 1,830-meter length led to post forming by the manufacturer. But the breakage was not prevented and the outer layer was removed. Ultimately a faulty method of arresting the outer layer at the coupling led to catastrophic failure.
