A new hollow core cable design developed by Olin Conductors is presented. Ninety aluminum wires are laid around a core layer of alternating steel reinforcement and shaped aluminum wires, which surrounds a central air space. No spacers are used. The problems of extra high voltage transmission systems are also reviewed.
