Canada Prolongs Investigation into Steel Wire Dumping from 10 Countries – News and Statistics

Canada extends its anti-dumping investigation on steel wire imports from 10 countries, addressing domestic industry concerns over price undercutting.

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has extended the initial phase of its investigation into the alleged harmful dumping of certain carbon and alloy steel wire from ten countries. The countries under investigation include China, Taiwan, India, Italy, Malaysia, Portugal, Spain, Thailand, Turkey, and Vietnam. The preliminary phase, initially set to conclude within 90 days, has been extended to 135 days due to the complexities and challenges in gathering satisfactory evidence, according to the CBSA.

The investigation was launched in April following a complaint by Sivaco Wire Group 2004, LP and ArcelorMittal Long Products Canada. The aim of the investigation is to address the alleged material injury suffered by these companies due to price undercutting and loss of sales attributed to dumped imports. A preliminary determination or a decision to terminate the investigation is expected by September 4.

As of April 2025, Canada has implemented 158 special import measures covering a broad spectrum of industrial and consumer goods, according to data from the IndexBox platform. This move aligns with global trends where major steel-producing nations are intensifying efforts to safeguard their markets. The US Department of Commerce and Brazil have initiated similar investigations into metal product imports, while China extended its anti-dumping duties on stainless steel imports from several regions for another five years.
