Oceaneering International, a U.S.-based subsea engineering and applied technology company, has been awarded a grant of £400,000 (approximately €465,000) by Scottish Enterprise, Scotland’s economic development agency. The funding is intended to support a project aimed at increasing the manufacturing capacity for subsea power cables, which are destined for use in Scotland’s offshore wind sector.

The Oceaneering facility in Rosyth, which has been operational at the Port of Rosyth since 1999, specializes in the production of subsea communication, power, and hydraulic umbilicals. These are supplied to both fixed and floating offshore oil and gas facilities.

The purpose of the funding from Scottish Enterprise is to bolster Oceaneering’s floating offshore wind dynamic cable qualification projects. The immediate project will leverage existing manufacturing equipment during the initial research and development phase.

Once the product design has been finalized and certified, Oceaneering has plans to invest in new equipment and machinery. This will enhance the project’s capacity, thereby contributing to the growth of Scotland’s offshore wind sector.

The grant is a significant endorsement of Oceaneering’s work in the offshore wind sector and a testament to the potential of Scotland’s renewable energy industry. It also underscores the commitment of Scottish Enterprise to support innovative projects that contribute to the growth and sustainability of Scotland’s economy.
