NKT awarded 2 projects from Germany’s TenneT as latest from multi-year agreement

Supporting Europe’s Energy Transition Through Advanced Cable Solutions

NKT has secured two new turnkey projects in Germany under its multi-year framework agreement with TenneT, the Dutch-German transmission system operator. The contracts are part of TenneT’s 2GW Program, one of Europe’s most ambitious energy infrastructure initiatives driving the continent’s clean energy transition.

Under the new orders, NKT will design, manufacture, and install 525 kV XLPE high-voltage direct current (HVDC) cable systems for both the LanWin7 project and a segment of the NordOstLink. These projects will facilitate the efficient transport of renewable energy from the North Sea to Germany’s national grid.

The contracts, valued at more than €1 billion, include full engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) scope. With these additions, NKT has now been awarded five projects under its long-term framework agreement with TenneT, which runs through 2028 and may extend until 2031.

Advancing Europe’s Renewable Power Infrastructure

NKT CEO Claes Westerlind emphasized the company’s continued commitment to enabling Europe’s energy transition.

“We are thrilled to once again be selected as a key partner for TenneT’s 2GW Program,” said Westerlind. “We look forward to applying our advanced power cable technology to deliver reliable energy transport solutions for these strategic German projects.”

The LanWin7 route extends approximately 320 km, spanning both onshore and offshore HVDC cable systems rated at 525 kV. It connects to NordHub, a multi-terminal hub near Pöschendorf, Schleswig-Holstein, which links multiple direct current (DC) and alternating current (AC) connections. This hub plays a key role in transmitting offshore wind power from the North Sea to Germany’s power grid.

Meanwhile, the NordOstLink (partial) project focuses on expanding grid capacity and improving flexibility with an additional 65 km of onshore HVDC cable systems. Project execution will begin between 2026 and 2027, with commissioning expected in 2033–2034.

Long-Term Collaboration Strengthens the NKT TenneT HVDC Projects in Germany

These new contracts reinforce the strong partnership between NKT and TenneT. Together, they continue to pioneer large-scale grid solutions to integrate renewable power into Europe’s energy infrastructure.

Furthermore, these projects align with Europe’s broader strategy to transport offshore wind energy efficiently and strengthen cross-border interconnections. NKT’s advanced HVDC technology plays a vital role in meeting the growing power demand while reducing environmental impact.
