Prysmian Group has secured a major framework agreement with Terna, Italy’s national grid operator. The partnership will help reinforce the country’s high-voltage electricity infrastructure and drive energy transition goals.
The agreement lasts three years, with an optional fourth year, totaling up to €382.5 million. Prysmian will supply high-voltage alternating current (HVAC) cables and deliver maintenance services across Terna’s expanding power network.
Terna, headquartered in Rome, manages about 98% of Italy’s high-voltage and extra-high-voltage grid. The system covers more than 75,000 kilometers of power lines. Terna plans to buy at least 50 kilometers of cable each year. That number could rise as demands increase.
The partnership supports Terna’s modernization strategy, aligned with the European Green Deal and the National Energy and Climate Plan. The project strengthens grid reliability and supports cleaner, more efficient electricity delivery.
Prysmian will produce the cables at its Pignataro Maggiore plant in Campania, which recently received over €20 million in upgrades. The investment increased capacity and improved production speed for high-voltage cable manufacturing.
Marcello Del Brenna, CEO of Prysmian Europe, called the deal a win for all parties. “This agreement strengthens Italy’s power grid, supports energy transition, and boosts the national economy,” he said.
Fabio Zucca, Prysmian’s Italy Country Manager, added that the partnership comes at a crucial moment. “We are proud to work with Terna to provide reliable, advanced, and sustainable solutions,” he said.
With this agreement, Prysmian demonstrates its ongoing commitment to sustainable infrastructure. The company continues to strengthen Italy’s position as a leader in energy technology and grid innovation.
