Description
Improved technology for manufacturing #14 AWG through #6 AWG with double twist bunching, developed at the Southwire Company, is described. The construction of a round conductor, superior to the hexagonal shaped conductor, is illustrated through formulas and diagrams. The conductor, passed through a sizing die, is smooth and round and can be manufactured on a double-twist machine at a much higher output than with conventional machines. To achieve the reverse-lay required by specifications, the new design reduces wires and increases wires in the core. Overtwisting is used to achieve the desired core wire lay length.
