This paper extends the use of the Double-twist process to manufacture 7-wire strand from #8 AWG (8 mm2) to #1/0 AWG (50 mm2) to 19-wire strand up to 4/0 AWG (100 mm2) in a single pass. It reviews the concepts of fill factors and the advantages of profiled elements to optimize conductor material and quantifiers insulation savings for different strand designs to meet ASTM, BS and IEC specifications. It looks at STC (Statistical Process Control) in the form of XBAR and R charts documenting material variances and what is important in the control of the overall stranding process.
