This technical article introduces the shape memory effect displayed by Cu-Zn-Al wires and springs. The study undertaken determined the effect of immediate annealing treatments on the microstructures of a two-phase (alpha + beta) Cu-Zn-Al alloy to improve drawing properties. Further description of the process to obtain materials with shape memory, and the introduction of new product applications follow.
