In part one of a series, a brief history of wiredrawing is presented, and current methods used in the drawing of copper wire are discussed. Some new experimental methods for improving wire rod are considered. A new method whereby copper is tapped from the molten bath into 0.625 inch grooves on a horizontal, revolving plate prior to rolling into rod and cold drawing is described.
