A detailed study concerning factors affecting the drawability of 42 gauge copper wire has been conducted in a manufacturing plant and in the laboratory. Influence of rod shaving, copper rod quality, total oxygen content, and surface condition of both the incoming rod and of the drawn process wire have been determined by statistical analyses. Correlation of final pounds per break with a large number of different physical and mechanical properties has been attempted.
