Investigations are reported on a method developed for carbon restoration of decarburized rod and wire. The furnace, carburizing gas used, and carburizing reaction are described. A typical restoration is described, and results are presented for seven test charges, consisting of various steel compositions and conditions. Conclusions regarding conditions required for successful results are presented.
