A new, simple method of restoring the carbon content of steel bar, rod and wire during annealing is presented. The layout and design of the equipment are illustrated, including the nitrogen generator, refrigerant gas dryer, endothermic type generator, and dewpoint recorder and controller. Operation of the system is described, and the chemical mechanism of carbon restoration is explained.
