This paper deals with the causes and consequences of screw wear along with an in-depth study of one solution to the problem. Adhesive and abrasive wear to extruder screws, effects of wear, and common remedies are examined. The detonation gun is profiled, with comparison tests of D-coated feed screws vs. screws hardfaced with nickle- or cobalt-base alloys.
