Studies to determine the cause of cuppiness in copper and aluminum alloy wires are described. A relationship between die angle and oxygen content of copper rod was demonstrated to determine the degree of cuppiness of the wire produced. Smooth-curve contour dies and large reductions per die increase the quality of the wire.
