Description
The use of rod produced from scrap-based, continuously cast, electric furnace steel as a replacement for hot metal, ingot cast, rim steel rod has been hindered by its excessive strain aging. Minimizing the effect of the higher N2 content, therefore, has been the focus of great effort in the industry. Use of Boron addition to “Scavenge” the N2 has proved very useful, and the concept of control through B/N ratio aimed at minimum rod strength produced very helpful results.
