Salt patenting of wire and rod, using a continuous direct-fired gas furnace is reviewed. Physical properties of the sodium nitrate salt were compared to lead to establish working capacity and relative costs per pound. Other areas secondary to the production process i.e. safety/disposal are covered. Full production problems arising after a four and one-half month period are documented.
