This paper explores select rod defects, along with the resultant wire defect. Also select wire defects caused by poor drafting practices are illustrated. Most examples are in high and medium carbon steels. Overlaps, seams, fins, pipe, segregation, surface inclusions, mixed microstructure, pits, frictional damage, martensite, porcupining, and cuppy fractures are presented.
