Interest in the use of fiber optic cable in subscriber applications has grown at a tremendous rate over the past few years. What is of importance in subscriber use is that the fiber optic cables provide an extended life within the hazards of the environment into which they are introduced. This paper will review what these environmental hazards are and how a fiber optic cable with an armored sheath design incorporating a longitudinally formed coated stell tape provides this protection.
