The paper describes a recent installation in Norway of an automated in-line installation, taking hotrolled wire rod via a magazine of carriers through a vertical payoff, a descaler, a self-contained closed circuit electrolytic pickling apparatus, closed circuit rinse, borax coating, dryer, multihole drawing. machine and spooler for up to 6 tons of wire. A special arrangement allows payoff and takeup magazines to be set up for unattended operation of up to 60 hours, such as from Friday afternoon to Monday morning.
