Decarburization and carburization in the same load is a common problem in wire annealing. The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate that the control by carbon flux of a nitrogen- hydrocarbon atmosphere achieves no decarburization and no recarburization. The flux of carbon is the mass of carbon going across the metal surface, per unit of metal surface and per unit of time.
