Basic metallurgical and mechanical aspects of aluminum wiremaking are presented. Metallurgical phenomena, metallurgy versus cold-work, recovery and recrystallization, geometry of cold-work, importance of dies, dies (the bell, approach, bearing, and relief), wire break and defect analysis, casting defects, hot mill defects, and drawing related defects are discussed.
