A rigorous statistical procedure for measuring the productive capacity of wire mills is outlined. The method accounts for the complex interaction of product mix, wire diameter, and wire speed to yield a measure of capacity useful for scheduling, market forecasting, cost evaluation, and purchasing. Use of the procedure in a magnet wire mill is described.
