Fatigue and impact tests, as well as tests on the effects of annealing and reannealing, were conducted to determine the fundamental properties of soft steel stock used in chain production. Tentative conclusions regarding chain failure and the practical application of these conclusions are presented. The causes of crystalline fracture are discussed.
