The use of ceramic fiber insulation on new and existing furnaces in wire mills to save fuel and energy, and avoid excessive furnace maintenance, is discussed. The production of alumina/silica ceramic fiber, batting, and needled blanket are described. The Fiberwall furnace lining system and the LOR (Lining Over Refractory) system are outlined. A case of conversion of a bell annealer to the ceramic fiber system is presented.
