The manufacture and properties of cross-linked polyethylene insulation and jacketing materials are discussed. Advantages compared to unmodified polyethylene include increased resistance to elongation; elimination of stress cracking; improved solvent resistance; and better weatherability, tensile strength, and electrical properties. The use of carbon black filler is emphasized.
