Description
Advantages of plastic burn-off by fluidized beds for cleaning of insulation plastics from process hardware are discussed; safety for parts and personnel is emphasized. Other cleaning options, including molton salt baths, are also briefly considered; problems and disadvantages are given. A typical fluidized bed is schematically depicted, and the process is described. Three practical considerations are discussed: PVC burn-off, component configuration, and the effectiveness of cleaning. The fluidized bath is concluded to be the safest, most effective, and economical cleaning system.
