The concept of combining pair twisting and unit stranding into a single operation for the production of telephone cables is discussed. Conventional pair-twisting machines, SZ-twisting machines using breathing or straightened accumulators, reel arrangement, capacitance imbalances in 25-pair units, cable design, and manufacturing technique are considered.
