Comparison of the effectiveness of mechanical descaling against acid pickling for cleaning of low-carbon steel wire rod – a case study

$15.00

This paper is based on a case study conducted to analyze the effectiveness of mechanical descaling against acid pickling to obtain bright, smooth wire surface finish. A detailed comparative analysis between the effects of acid pickled and mechanically descaled wire rod on the final surface finish of the wire will be discussed. The study shows that mechanical descaling is an efficient tool for low-carbon steel wire rod. However, a combination of descaling with pickling may be needed in case of extensive oxidation.
