In the system described at the Furukawa Electric Co. Ltd., two Southwire continuous Rod (SCR) manufacturing systems are used to produce wire rods of electrical tough pitch copper, consisting of a shaft furnace, a belt and wheel type casting machine, and rolling mills. A computer aided instruction system of bare wire works of copper based on the automatic process control of melting and casting process are evaluated for quality improvement, labor savings, and energy efficiency.
