Microprocessor based systems for controlling wire and cable coating equipment are discussed. General goals for implementation of a system are outlined; accuracy, ease of use, ease of maintenance, flexibility in applications, and security. A case application is examined, each portion with a goal of computerization. A block diagram of a micro- processor-based extrusion control system is given.
