Description
The requirements for copper rod used for magnet wire, for which no specifications currently exist, are summarized. Various measurements are charted, with corresponding ranges of values and comments by the author. Mechanical and physical properties, annealability, surface characteristics, and drawability are considered. Parameters exist for several properties but others are still elusive. It is concluded that high quality rod is critical and that a two-tier grading system will probably be necessary. Therefore caution is recommended in proliferating unsubstantiated test requirements, with a joint effort needed.
