A brief summary of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) challenge to EPA effluent rules is presented. Following guidelines set down by the Clean Water Act, the EPA set a compliance date of July 24, 1983, for a zero rate of spent drawing lubricant to be discharged into waterways. Court challenges and views of select copper forming companies are discussed.
