Protection requirements and methods of protection of communication cable are reviewed. Welded corrugated sheath is described and the advantages are discussed; these include mechanical strength, a barrier impervious to moisture and chemicals, lightweight and inexpensive, low longitudinal electrical resistance, easy installation, ability to elongate 10-30%, and strength or corrosion resistance (depending on metal used).
