Experiments on the crystallography of cold drawn music wire are described. An X-ray diffractometer was used to determine degree of preferred orientation on seven sizes of wire. Young’s modulus of elasticity was also determined on the samples. Both factors increased with increased reduction of area until a diameter of 0.047 inches, then sharply decreased.
