Description
The Mordica Memorial Lecture discusses the most serious operating risks concerning overhead power lines and the resulting modern requirements, with respect to both material and design. It characterizes technological problems associated with the production and processing of highly-conductive AlZr and thermally high-resistant AlMgSi alloys. The lecture addresses the fatigue strength of wires made of aluminum and its alloys; heat resistance of wires made of AlMgSi alloy, exposed to temperature; and a manufacturing technology of Cu-Ag wires with a silver nano-fiber structure in copper matrix. It presents copper/aluminum composites—containing numerous, most noble varieties of allotropic carbon (CNTs, graphene)—as the most futuristic alternative to traditional conductive materials.
