Development of supertension cross-linked polyethylene insulated electric cable manufacture in South Africa

$15.00

The history of the development of a supertension cable manufacturing facility is described. Cable design is discussed with particular attention given the dielectric system, since polyethylene (XLPE) has strong dielectric properties but risks imperfections which can lead to cable failure. Problems and solutions with regard to insulation are discussed in detail. The manufacturing process–stranding, insulating, taping, CSA and PVC sheathing, and testing–is also discussed.
