Description
The introduction of the new perfluorinated lubricants raised the question of die design compatibility for drawing both ferrous and nonferrous wire. The literature contains many methods for the design of wiredrawing dies as a function of lubricant, friction, material properties, drawing speed, etc. In this study, the authors used a procedure proposed by Betzalel Avitzur in 1967 for the experimental determination of an optimal die design as a function of the specific friction parameters existing for any combination of die, lubricant and material. This paper details the experimental apparatus built to collect these data.
