The direct control of a Western Electric cable plant’s machine processes and production testing by computer is explained. Areas of the plant under automatic control include the plastic raw materials silos, pulp preparation and insulating machines, PIC/PVC wire drawing and insulating lines, the footage and fault counter, ratio counter and display, line speed counter, dielectric strength tester digitizer, stranders, and jacketing lines.
