Nippon Steel Corporation has developed a new direct patented wire rod (NLP), on the basis of fundamental research into the effects of alloying elements, especially silicon as a substitutional solid solution hardener, and the effects of the controlled-cooling process after hot rolling. NLP wire rod has a chemical composition featuring 0.8% carbon, 0.5% manganese, and over 1% silicon. Mechanical properties and chemical composition are discussed graphically and in detail.
