Description
The die tends to wear gradually with abrasion, and a combination of abrasion and adhesion results in variable friction conditions and acceleration of failure. Monitoring die behavior and timely reconditioning is the key for getting consistent output from dies. This paper covers reconditioning methods and needed equipment. It also presents a brief troubleshooting guide covering the key failure modes in drawing—fracture and wear related to the drawing process; die manufacture; materials; and lubrication and die geometry.
