The development of high grade steel wire rods with good drawability in the as-rolled condition, and drawability without any heat treatment is described. Steel grades outlined in this paper are high carbon alloy steel wire rods to be drawn without annealing, hyper eutectoid steel wire rods to be drawn without lead patenting, and high carbon steel wire rods which have a very narrow deviation of mechanical properties in the as-rolled condition.
