The recent development of a non-hydroscopic compound of very low alkalinity which is replacing lime as a coating during drawing of ferrous wire and rod is described. This compound adds to die life; increases uniformity of the product; is easily cleaned; produces better bright wire, welding wire, and tire bead wire; and increases rust protection. Cost saving and reducing the mess of lime coating wiredrawing are also achieved.
