Dynamic strain aging in low carbon steel wire rods

The dynamic strain aging characteristics of two low carbon steel wire rods microalloyed with Nb or B, produced by continuous casting, were determined. The change in flow stress in the temperature range 300 to 673 K and strain rate between 10-3 to 10-1 s-1 was investigated. The results were compared with those obtained for a conventional casting low carbon A-l killed steel. The microalloyed steels appear to be less susceptible to dynamic strain aging, indicating that Nb or B are more effective than Al in removing nitrogen from solid solution.
