This paper studies strengthening of steel tire cord from a basic metallurgical viewpoint. It deals with the basic concept on alloying design and the optimum microstructure of patented wires investigated from a viewpoint of work hardening and delamination. The paper also describes the properties of a higher-strength steel tire cord produced based on the results of the above basic research.
