Parts two and three of a three-part series on factors that affect the strength and power required for drawing steel wire are presented. Drawn strength and wiredrawing power are considered. The effect of four variables (carbon content, drafting, starting diameter, and starting tensile strength) on ultimate drawn strength are analyzed mathematically. A discussion of wiredrawing power considers the effect of speed and the calculation of optimum die sets.
