Description

A fiber optic strander produced by Stolberger Maschinenfabrik in West Germany for Simplex Wire and Cable Company of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, is described. Simplex’ specifications for the machine are listed, as are the machine specifications the two companies developed in tandem. The dancer control and bobbin drive systems, ‘the heart and cost of a fiber optic strander’ receive special attention. In general, fiber optic machines must be versatile in accomodating today’s variety of cable designs.
